Watch the companion video, then continue reading to examine the biblical testimony in its full context.
Peter is uncomfortable with the reversal: “Lord, do you wash my feet?” His resistance exposes how strange it feels when true authority takes the position associated with a servant.
Status Can Become an Excuse.
The higher people rise, the easier it is to believe certain tasks are beneath them. Jesus overturns that logic while fully affirming that He is Teacher and Lord.
Service Is Not Loss of Identity.
Jesus does not become less than Lord when He washes feet. Humility is not self-contempt, and service does not require denying responsibility, gifting, or authority.
Love Must Become Visible.
The new commandment confronts another escape: speaking warmly about love without taking costly action for another person’s good.
The Master Sets the Pattern.
Jesus says a servant is not greater than his master. No Christian title, maturity, platform, or responsibility creates an exemption from the servant-shaped love demonstrated by Jesus.
Tomorrow, receive Jesus’ cleansing and decide what taking the servant’s place requires in practice.
